5 Egyptian Bodies Analogies

It may only take 1 page, just have to complete all directions below… https://youtu.be/-CGgLnbFHBI GET TO KNOW ME THROUGH ANALOGY“WHO ARE YOU?” Analogy:Something that is comparable to something else in significant ways. Akin to metaphor, analogies equate two seemingly different things.Context:Ancient Egyptian identity was shaped by the belief that people have 5 bodies: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and magical (which was born of the balanced and harmonious interconnection of the other four). Ancient Egyptians believed that each of these 5 bodies reflected a different aspect of their true self. Directions: 1. Watch this short 3-4 minute video clip: Tina Seelig “Connect and Combine”to learn more about how to connect and combine ideas to apply metaphorical thinking through analogy creation:

2. Think of the ways in which each of these five different parts of you, your 5 bodies, intertwine to make you who you truly are.

3. Make an analogy between EACH of your 5 bodies and a distinct object or process that most closely mirrors that particular body(see examples below). 4. Be as profound and poetic as you can, and be sure to flesh out the parallel you are drawing by explaining how they are the same.

Goal:This exercise is designed to enhance your ability to make analogies and remote associations as well as your ability to connect and combine disparate things, which is a key trait of creative thinking. Here are some EXAMPLES of excellent student work from past semesters:

MENTAL: My Mental body is like a puzzle. Puzzles require a high degree of concentration and patience. It has many pieces to put together, and I begin to assemble things in a systematic way, piecing together the edges to frame the subject, and then I begin to connect shapes and patterns to fill in the middle to complete the image.

Once I have pieced it all together, it becomes a beautiful picture that tells a story. I have many different pieces that make up my mind, but with patience and careful consideration, things begin to fall into place. In the beginning, it seems like a mess of unrelated things, but the struggle is a challenge I enjoy, and I know that the closer I get to completing the puzzle, the clearer and easier things become.

PHYSICAL: My Physical body is like an artist working on a masterpiece. At first it started as nothing but a few strokes on the canvas, just as I was when I was first created. Then the lines and brushstrokes started coming together to create recognizable shapes, just as my physical form began to take shape in my mother’s womb with my features appearing.

When the artist gives birth to her masterpiece, just as when my mother gave birth to me, the basic form is complete, for the most part; however, it still requires the artists’ finishing touches and will continue to age and change in response to environmental influences. Likewise, my physical body will naturally grow old with lines and hues forged by time and experience. However, it does not matter how old we get, someone will always still think of us as a beautiful work of art.

EMOTIONAL: My Emotional body is like a morning glory. Colorful and engaging, I am at home in a domestic setting as well as in the wild, but the soil where my roots grow needs to be very neutral –neither too dry nor too moist. I cannot thrive in an extreme climate as I am delicate in that way. However delicate my roots might be, I have the ability to be overpowering at times, clinging to anything in my path. If given the opportunity, I will try to gain control of my surroundings and escape cultivation for the wild.

If I’m kept under control, though, I am not only fun to have around but can also provide shade, shelter, and comfort to those who need it. On the surface I might appear to be just another pretty flower, but deep down I am strong, curious, and labyrinthine like the vine winding its way across the landscape to embrace new things. SPIRITUAL: My Spiritual body is like building a skyscraper.

A skyscraper needs a good foundation before it can be built, and each floor depends on the support of the floor below, just as a spiritual body needs. My spiritual body is made up of many layers, with each one relying on the strength of the previous layer. Each layer of my spirituality is reinforced by the people who influenced my views on life as I grew up. Now, my spiritual body is a culmination of my life experiences, just as skyscraper is a culmination of a lot of people coming together to create something that reaches for the sky.

MAGICAL: My Magical body is like a lost key. When I was a kid, I liked to read fantasy novels and dream of being inside the novel: slaying dragons, saving princesses, exploring distant lands, and solving mysteries. Children have the inherent ability to leave the world behind and immerse themselves inside the book and stay lost for hours and hours for days on end because they believe in the magic of their imagination. Once I grew older, I began to search inside myself trying to feel the way I felt before, knowing that deep within me, there remains that child, locked away somewhere behind a tiny key hole.

I have spent my adult life searching, and may spend the remainder of my life looking for that key to unlock that magical world inside, just out of reach, knowing that when I find it, I will be as happy as I was as a child.

On the surface I might appear to be just another pretty flower, but deep down I am strong, curious, and labyrinthine like the vine winding its way across the landscape to embrace new things
