Effects of Enforcing Gender Roles
Hello, I am writing a paper about our opinion if we should enforce gender norms or not. On this particular topic I would like the writer of this paper to make it their opinion that they believe enforcing gender norms is wrong.
I need a rough draft and final,
I will be posting the rubric down below,  each premise needs supporting data. Please follow the rubric guidelines. Please message me with any questions, thanks.
The aim of this first draft assignment is to develop an argument regarding the ethics of
gender roles.
We live in a gendered society (in the U.S.). While sex and gender roles are changing,
we generally still expect men to be masculine and women to be feminine.  These
sex/gender roles are often reinforced through praise for the appropriate conduct and
derision or blame for conduct that violates the gender role.  For example, we praise men
for working long hours at an office or other job outside the home, but often criticize men
who choose to take be the primary caregiver for their children by calling them Mr.
Moms.  For women, we praise them when they are well-groomed, but criticize them if
they do not care enough about their appearance or care too much about it.
Under a merit-based view of moral responsibility, we are held responsible if it is
appropriate to praise or blame us for an action.  In contrast, under a consequentialist
view of moral responsibility, if praise or blame could lead to a change in our behavior,
then we are held responsible for our actions.
What do you think?  Are people responsible for perpetuating/reinforcing gender roles?
Identify your position and provide an argument (reasons) that support your position.
Some things to consider/questions to answer:

  • What is gender? What are gender roles? (Define, explain, give an example)
  • Are all gender roles the result of social construction or are some the result of biology?
  • How are gender roles enforced?
  • Are gender roles good for individuals?
  • Are gender roles good for society?
  • Are gender roles ethical? Why or Why not?
  • Should we enforce gender roles?
  • Is it appropriate to praise or blame people for perpetuating gender roles?
  • Dose praising or blaming people for perpetuating gender roles change their behavior?
