Letters to Congregation

Read John’s 2nd and 3rd letters seeking to understand how the apostle John dealt with the problems caused by visiting itinerant preachers. Gleaning from the problems addressed by these letters, think of a possible modern day fictional scenario a church could experience when an itinerant preacher visits and a pastor is left to remedy the situation. Reflecting on the possible problems created by the itinerant preacher, write a 100-150-word case study that presents the damage caused by an invited guest speaker in a church community. For example, you could pretend you are the lead pastor of a church and an invited guest speaker promotes heretical doctrines in your absence. Then, upon your return, brothers and sisters from the church inform you of the questionable ideas the guest speaker taught as truth. In addition, you also learn that a good number of families have been persuaded to leave the church on account of the itinerant preacher. The idea is for the case study to present all the vital information needed to inform a district pastor or overseer of the mock scenario. Feel free to get creative by assigning a fictional name to the preacher, church, and members, and to provide other pertinent information needed to construct a very difficult fictional scenario at church. After completing the case study, formulate a response to the problems presented in your case study by writing a 250-350-word letter addressing the pastor’s main concerns. Using John’s letters as an example, pretend you are the district pastor or overseer who has been presented with the fictional church scenario. Draft a letter to the church/pastor seeking to remedy the situation. Make sure you address the problem directly and you give biblical advice to the pastor and church in order that they can get through this difficult time. The paper you submit should include the case study at the top of the page followed by your pastoral letter. APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. You are not required to submit this assignment to Turnitin.
