Nutrition and elimination are closely linked. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate understanding of the pathophysiology of these conditions and the treatment of these conditions.
Instructions
For this essay you will focus on diverticulosis, a commonly encountered disease of altered bowel elimination. Compose a short (1 – 3 pages) essay explaining the risk factors, basic pathophysiology, and treatment of this common condition. You should include as part of your discussion an explanation of how the treatment modalities help to restore normal physiologic function.
The essay should be structured, and follow a logical format. Remember to cite your sources, consistent with the academic integrity policy of Doane. APA format is required.
Expectations
The essay is worth 16 points. Exceptional work will receive a full 16 points. Average work will receive 13 points. Work which is below average will receive 10 points.
- Exceptional work – The student presents a logically ordered essay which accurately and clearly explain how diverticulosis deviates from normal function, including the risk factors for developing the condition. For each treatment modality included, the essay accurately explains how normal function is restored. There are no conceptual inaccuracies, and the student has clearly expressed the ideas in their own words.
- Average work – The student presents a logically ordered essay which clearly explains how diverticulosis deviates from normal function, including the risk factors for developing the condition. For each treatment modality included, the essay explains how normal function is restored. The student either has some conceptual inaccuracies or misunderstandings, or does not include each of the identified elements.
- Below average – Student does not have a logical flow or format. Omits more than one element, or has numerous conceptual inaccuracies or misunderstandings. Failure to correctly utilize APA format or to appropriately cite sources (without rising to the level of academic dishonesty) will be graded as “below average”.
There will be a 2 point deduction to essays which exceed 2 pages in length.
