1. As before, I want you to complete a written assignment for chapters 24 through 30
The Ebook link is above (all chapters combined; no need to do separate assignments for each chapter) that accomplishes the following:
i. Summarize the plot of the chapters briefly. Take note of the specific events that occur in those chapters. Your summary should also consider specific locations where the chapters are set.
ii. Describe any major characters who appear in the chapters, providing basic information about the character (appearance, death, action, defining characteristic). Make note of new major characters who appear, and make note of any changes you may perceive in the behavior of characters you have already been introduced to.
iii. List any words, terms, or phrases that you did not understand. Then make use of a dictionary or a Google search to provide a definition for those unfamiliar words, terms, or phrases.
iv. Describe your reaction to the novel to this point, and compose at least one question you have about the novel to this point.
Annotating will be essential to your understanding of Mother Night. As you read, highlight important plot points, the presence of important characters, and words you may not understand, so that completing these written assignments is easier to accomplish.
Note #1: It is not necessary for you to complete the above four tasks for each individual chapter. Instead, you will simply complete those four tasks for the set of chapters as a whole.
Note #2: With challenging novels like this one, it will be tempting for you to seek the help of online study guides or cliff notes. I urge you to avoid doing so. It is not my desire to hand out failing grades because of the plagiarism that sometimes results from the use of such resources. Much of our in-class discussion will be spent attempting to wrestle with the challenges of the novel. Writing about a difficult piece of literature like Mother Night is, by nature, interpretive, so DO NOT BE AFRAID OF BEING WRONG!
