BIOGRAPHY OF RICHARD ESTRADA: Richard Estrada was the associate editor of the Dallas Morning News editorial page, and a syndicated columnist whose essays appeared regularly in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and other major newspapers. He was best known as a thoughtful, independent-minded commentator or immigration and social issues. Before joining the Dallas Morning News in 1988, Estrada worked as a congressional staff member and as a researcher at the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington D.C.
In the 1990s, he was appointed to the US Commission on Immigration Reform. Following his death at the age of 49 in 1999, the Richard Estrada Fellowship in Immigration Studies was established in his honor.
